our pregnancy journey was extraordinary! we heard the heart beat at 9.5 weeks along and craved that sound every day after. i grew very big, very rapidly. everything was mostly smooth, mostly normal and then we had some complications at the very end. but God provided a healthy giant surprise BOY. we did not find out the gender and meeting him for the first time was the most fun and greatest adventure of our lives yet.
one of my favorite lines from a baby book my friend nicole gifted us says “at first there is us. there is only us. but even then, even before we can know to know it, we wish you were here” it’s called wish by matthew cordell and it makes me cry every time. we desired a family since the beginning. and it’s been a long road to get here. so much learning. so much planning. so much stillness. so much faith and waiting.
jack truman burt is here! he’s a giant baby with a giant smile. he took his sweet time getting here. 41.5 weeks pregnant. went into labor on september 6th around 4:30am ….. and little monster was finally born on september 7th around 3pm. (i think. i actually don’t remember and always have to ask ethan what time he was born). we planned a home birth but after many hours of labor and pushing, baby was stuck and we felt it best to head to the hospital. more pushing and trying but eventually we needed a c-section to get baby out. he was 9lb. 8oz and 21in long. he smiled the first day he was born. the kiwi blanket photo posted her is our all-time favorite from his earliest days home with us.
we are now a crew. we do everything together, go everywhere with each other. pretty much pose the exact same for all the family selfies. epically joyful to have this sweet, long awaited gift between us. he is delight, magic, sleepless and FUN.
papa + jack
watching ethan with jack is just everything. he picked out his name. his has wanted him since he was a kid himself. i knew when i married him that if we ever had kids he would be the best papa and daily he amazes me with that truth becoming reality. he makes jack giggle the best giggle sounds. he tells him every day to grow up faster so they can play and run and his biggest complaint is that he sleeps too much during the day and he can’t wait for full awake days with his son. he was made to be a father. he’s such a sweet, beautiful example. especially as he points his son to our heavenly father. it is a deep, great big joy to parent with this gift of a man.
mama + jack
you made me a mama. great, surprise boy. every day i enjoy being your mom. we have a very strong bond. we have worked really hard to breastfeed and are 10 months strong now! you know my voice. you love touching my face. you are absolute magic to behold. we cannot stop calling you beautiful. you are so far very like me. mostly in the annoying ways like not sleeping and having severe FOMO. i enjoy most about your baby days our slow mornings together and your giggles just for me. i love you climbing all over me and always wanting me. papa can’t wait for some more time with you. which i feel will come when we wean. you like us both, but clearly like me more right now. i am not complaining!
a memorable day. ethan loves taking me to beach day. it’s a thing we’ve done for a few years and we couldn’t wait to get out of the house after along winter and get to the beach with our new babe! we may have gone a little prematurely. it takes 2.5 hours to get to this beach we love (porter beach, indiana) and naturally we went on a stormy, chilly day. the photos are gorgeous and i don’t regret the trip. but we will have to plan a warmer day visit soon.
i started rose colored glasses photography as a little hobby to help my cabin fever. i have chronic illness and was going stir crazy. i had the opportunity to work for a photographer and i totally caught the bug. i love people, i love marriage, and i love artistry. ethan surprised me with a camera in april of 2012 and by the end of that year we were photographing weddings. it literally just TOOK. OFF. faster than we could prepare for. God has provided all the couples and all the wedding days. we took this thing full time by 2013. ethan quit his job(s) and we moved into our home in danville, il the very same month, smack dab in the middle of wedding season which was so stupid. we changed the name from RCG to BURTco. to better represent us as a couple and as a brand. RCG was after my favorite song “La Vie En Rose” but everyone just called us the burts and never called us by rose colored glasses photography so we figured the name change would just be beneficial. it has been! we’ve traveled coast to coast in 8 years and we’ve been side by side working as husband and wife since the very beginning. we love the lifestyle it provides and we are amazed year over year of all the people we get to call friends and family because of this job.
